There is a sense of community generated on Instagram, particularly in the beauty and skincare world. Users love finding content that they can relate to. And what’s more inspiring than following an esthetician who has grown her beauty biz from the ground up? Or an influencer who preaches #skinpositivity for women who are terrified of aging? Who we follow and what we choose to feed into our minds every day can influence our thoughts and feelings much more than we think. This is why it’s important to be selective and cultivate a feed that inspires, motivates and teaches us. Whether it be facial tutorials, expert skincare tips, a post about the latest treatments or honest product reviews, you can find plenty of pages that serve as a great source of daily inspiration and information. What a year…what a decade! In 2010, I had no clue that I'd be here 10 years later with a business and a baby. I launched SB SKIN in 2013 and we grew rapidly, allowing us to move into our own beautiful space in early 2018. Thanks to all of you that made, and continue to make, SB SKIN such a success. As thrilling as it's been to build my business, 2019 has been the best year of my life: It brought me Glory in March, which changed everything. I was on maternity leave for much of the year and only now, nine months later, feel like I’m hitting my stride again. I have a new respect for working moms, especially moms that are doing it on their own. Balancing a business and a baby is a challenge that humbles me every day. I wouldn’t have it any other way, though—I am so grateful to wake up to my daughter every morning. I am also incredibly grateful to all of you for loving Glory as much as I do. She truly is the mascot of SB SKIN! There’s a momentum and buzz around 2020 that makes me excited to enter a new decade with all of you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your love, support and friendship. Cheers to the new year! Love, Shamara, Glory & SB SKIN TEAM 📷 by @ariaisadora

New blog post! …. your road map to Skin peels & acids ⭐️ It’s no secret that I love a good skin peel. It’s one of my favourite methods to use within my treatments, alongside many others. Dead skin cells, fine lines, sluggish skin cell turnover, dullness as well as boosting hydration levels and reducing the appearance of pigmentation, all generally prevent the skin from feeling and looking its best. Peels can be suitable for all skin types, including before special events as well as for long term skin health. If you want to know more, there is soooo much to tell you about peels! pop over to my blog for the full article (link in bio) #Loveyourskin #AbigailJames #glowingskin #skinpeel #agewell #smoothskin #facialist

We're back! Last week we shipped Gloria off to the east coast for a conference all about sunscreens + the FDA 👀👀.. but we'll talk more about that friday. For today, let's do a good 'ol fashioned #decodethatIL Winter is a great time to tackle that hyperpigmentation. Recently, we've seen more and more products feature kojic acid in their pigment battling serum (Versed, PTR, etc.) so let's take a look at one of these, Dr. Dennis Gross's IPL Dark Spot Correcting Serum. Just what is up with kojic acid? 🧪 Kojic acid is an ingredient found in fungi in the sake making process. It tackles unwanted hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase, and does have some clinical backing. It's been tested on skin and proven effective between 2% to 4%. 🤷‍♀️ Sounds awesome! But what's the catch?? So… kojic acid is one of those ingredients that is UBER UNSTABLE. In water (we kid you not), it turns from a light yellow solution to BLACK. So choose your kojic acid packaging carefully and and keep storage in mind 🧛‍♂️🧛‍♂️<-vampire settings: cold, out of sunlight…garlic not required…huehuehue 👩🏻‍🔬👩🏻‍🔬Chemist comment: This particular product takes the ""throw everything at the wall"" approach to tackling pigmentation. Other than kojic acid, it also has ascorbic acid, lactic acid, arbutin, licorice root extract… the works. Which… isn't a bad idea since pigmentation is such a difficult problem to tackle. Just be wary of layering this with too many other actives to prevent possible irritation. 🌟Thoughts? Questions? Any kojic acid experience?🌟#imperfectactives #pigmentation #humpday
